Quick answer: The Volatility 50 Index (V50) is a Deriv synthetic index built to move with a constant 50% volatility, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On real Deriv data from October 2026 an average 1-minute V50 candle covered about 0.096% of the price: about half the speed of V100 and five times the speed of V10. You can trade it with 15 contract groups, including Rise/Fall, digits, multipliers, accumulators, Turbos and Vanillas.

What Is the Volatility 50 Index?

V50 is one of Deriv’s continuous indices. Its price comes from a random number generator set to a fixed volatility, so it is not linked to any company, country or news. Deriv offers two versions:

VersionSymbolNew price everyOpen
Volatility 50 IndexR_502 seconds24/7
Volatility 50 (1s) Index1HZ50V1 second24/7

How Fast Does V50 Move?

Average one-minute range of V10, V50 and V100, standard and 1s versions
Average 1-minute candle range, real data: V50 sits between V10 and V100.
IndexAverage 1-minute range
Volatility 100.020%
Volatility 500.096%
Volatility 50 (1s)0.101%
Volatility 750.143%
Volatility 1000.191%

This makes V50 a middle choice: moves are big enough to read on a 1- or 5-minute chart, but your stop loss or multiplier is hit less quickly than on V75 or V100. See V10 and V25, V75 and V100 to compare.

Contracts You Can Trade on V50

The Deriv API listed these contract groups for both R_50 and 1HZ50V on 20 October 2026: Rise/Fall, Rise/Fall Equal, Higher/Lower, Touch/No Touch, Ends Between/Outside, Stays Between/Goes Outside, Digits (Matches/Differs, Even/Odd, Over/Under), High/Low Ticks, Only Ups/Only Downs, Asians, Reset, Multipliers, Accumulators, Turbos and Vanillas.

A 5-tick Rise on V50 paid $19.53 for a $10 stake, the same as on V50 (1s). You need to win 51.2% of trades just to break even (see how Deriv payouts work).

How to Trade Volatility 50 Step by Step

  1. Open a free Deriv demo account and add V50 to your chart in Deriv Trader or Deriv Bot.
  2. Pick one timeframe. 5-minute candles are a good start; see {L("position-size-calculator", "how stake size changes with timeframe")}.
  3. Decide the direction with one rule, for example price above a 50-period moving average = only Rise or multiplier Up.
  4. Set stake at 1–2% of your balance and a daily loss limit before you start.
  5. Record every trade and review at least 50 before going live.
Volatility 50 on TradingView or Exness: V50 is a Deriv product. Other platforms that show a “Volatility 50” name may use their own price feed, so always read the chart inside Deriv or a tool connected to your Deriv account, such as H-BOT.
