Quick answer: Deriv shows the payout before you buy. On 20 October 2026 a $10 stake paid $19.53 on Rise/Fall and Even/Odd, $89.29 on Matches and $10.96 on Differs. To break even you must win more often than the true chance: 51.2% for Rise/Fall (true chance about 50%), 11.2% for Matches (true chance 10%). That gap of about 1.2 points is Deriv’s built-in edge.

Every contract needs a win rate above its true chance just to break even.

How to Work Out the Break-Even Win Rate

Break-even win rate = stake ÷ payout. For Rise/Fall: 10 ÷ 19.54 = 51.2%. If your real win rate over many trades is lower, you lose money, no matter how you size your stakes.

Break-even win rate falls as the payout multiple rises
The higher the payout, the fewer wins you need, but each win is less likely.
