Trading Psychology: How to Stop Revenge Trading, Overtrading and Fear

The Five Emotional Traps
| Trap | What it looks like | Rule that stops it |
|---|---|---|
| Revenge trading | Raising stake to win back a loss | Fixed stake; stop after 3 losses |
| FOMO | Jumping in late after a big move | Only trade your setup |
| Overconfidence | Doubling size after a winning day | Size stays fixed for the week |
| Fear | Closing winners too early | Pre-set take-profit |
| Boredom | Trading because you are online | Maximum trades per day |
Rules to Write Before Every Session
- Stake per trade (1–2% of balance).
- Daily stop-loss (e.g. 10%) and daily target.
- Which setup you will trade, and on which index.
- Maximum trades and maximum session time.
- What you will do after 3 losses in a row (stop for 30 minutes).
Use Tools to Enforce Discipline
Bots don’t get angry, but only if their limits are set. Use stop-loss and take-profit in bot settings, and review results weekly in the journal. See also risk management.
A Weekly Review
- Did I follow every rule? Where did I break one?
- What was my worst trade and why?
- Win rate vs payout: is my break-even met?
- One rule to improve next week.
