Quick answer: A stop loss closes a trade automatically at a loss you choose; a take profit closes it at a gain you choose. On Deriv you can set both at the same time on multipliers and MT5 trades, and Deriv Bot has session-level take-profit and stop-loss. A 1:2 reward-to-risk (risk $1 to make $2) only needs to win about 34% of trades to break even, but realistic targets matter more than big ratios.

2 : 1about 34%
3 : 125%

A bigger target wins less often. Pick the ratio from the market’s normal move size, not from a wish.

Take profit (session)5–10% of balance

H-BOT bots use small defaults ($1 stake, take profit 5, stop loss 10, martingale off). See Deriv bot settings.

How risk per trade changes an account after a losing streak
Stops plus small risk keep a losing streak survivable.
Never widen a stop: moving the stop further away after entry turns a planned small loss into an unplanned big one. Close and re-plan instead.

Risk warning: Trading Deriv products such as digit options, multipliers and synthetic indices is high-risk. You can lose all the money you deposit, quickly. No bot, signal or strategy can guarantee profit, and past results do not predict future results. Practise on a demo account first, only trade money you can afford to lose, and check that Deriv is allowed where you live. This guide is education, not financial advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you set stop loss and take profit at the same time on Deriv?

Yes, on multipliers and MT5 trades; Deriv Bot has session profit and loss limits.

What is the best stop loss and take profit ratio?

Around 1.5:1 to 2:1 is common, but it must fit the market’s normal moves.

Where should I place my stop loss?

Beyond the level or swing that would prove the trade wrong, sized to 1–2% of balance.

Do Rise/Fall contracts have a stop loss?

No; your maximum loss is the stake you paid.

What take profit should I use on a Deriv bot?

A modest session target such as 5–10% of balance, with a matching stop loss.

What happens if the market gaps past my stop?

On fast markets the fill can be worse than the stop price; size trades for that.
