Quick answer: Boom 500 drifts slowly down and jumps up in sudden spikes; Crash 500 drifts slowly up and drops in spikes. Deriv says a spike comes on average once every 500 ticks, but the timing is random. In 10,000 real ticks we counted 11 spikes on Boom 500 and 17 on Crash 500, with gaps from 11 to 2,997 ticks. There is no best time of day: the indices run the same way 24/7.

"One spike per 500 ticks" is an average over a long time. In a short window you can wait three times that long, or see two spikes a few seconds apart. A strategy that needs a spike "soon" is a strategy that can lose for an hour.

What You Can Trade on Boom and Crash 500

The Two Common Approaches

ApproachHow it makes moneyHow it loses
Trade the drift (sell Boom / buy Crash)Small steady gains between spikesOne spike can wipe out many small gains
Catch the spike (buy Boom / sell Crash)One big move paysSlow bleed while you wait; spikes may be late

A Careful Plan

  1. Practise on demo with a fixed small stake.
  2. Always use a stop loss on multipliers or MT5; size it for a spike, not for the drift.
  3. Decide in advance how long you will wait for a spike, and accept the loss when time runs out.
  4. Risk at most 1–2% per trade; read {L("trading-risk-management", "risk management")}.
  5. Avoid "spike signal" sellers who promise timing (see {L("deriv-signals-telegram", "Telegram signals")}).
Best time to trade Boom 500? Synthetic indices are generated by a random number generator and run 24/7 with the same rules, so no hour is better. Trade when you are rested and focused.
