Martingale Strategy on Deriv: How It Works, the Real Risk and Safer Settings

Quick answer: Martingale means doubling your stake after every loss so that one win recovers all the losses plus the first stake’s profit. It wins often in small amounts, then loses everything in one long losing streak. With a $1 start, 7 losses in a row means the 8th stake is $128 and you have already lost $127. Streaks like that happen. Use a capped, small multiplier or none at all.
Martingale stake growth after each loss in a row from a $1 start
Doubling from $1: by the 8th trade the stake is $128 and the total at risk is over $250, more than a $100 account.

How Martingale Works

  1. Start with a small stake, e.g. $1.
  2. After a loss, multiply the next stake (classic martingale doubles it).
  3. After a win, go back to the starting stake.
  4. Each win recovers the losing run plus about one starting stake.

On Deriv, payouts are below double (for example 1.95 for Even/Odd), so a strict 2× martingale does not quite recover; many bots use 2.1× or more, which makes the stakes grow even faster.

Why Martingale Feels Safe

Most of the time a win arrives within a few trades, so the balance climbs in small steps for hours. That builds confidence just before the rare long streak.

How Often Do Long Losing Streaks Happen?

Losses in a row (50% contract)Chance in any one sequenceOver 1,000 trades
5about 1 in 32Expected many times
7about 1 in 128Expected several times
10about 1 in 1,024Quite possible

A bot placing hundreds of trades a day meets streaks of 7–10 regularly. The question is not if but when.

Does Martingale Work on Deriv?

It changes the shape of results (many small wins, rare huge losses), not the average. The house edge on each contract stays the same, so over time martingale loses on average like any other staking plan, but with a much bigger worst case.

Safer Ways to Use It

Account left after 10 losses at different risk per trade
After 10 losses in a row, risking 1% per trade leaves about $90 of $100; risking 10% leaves about $35.

Risk warning: Trading Deriv products such as digit options, multipliers and synthetic indices is high-risk. You can lose all the money you deposit, quickly. No bot, signal or strategy can guarantee profit, and past results do not predict future results. Practise on a demo account first, only trade money you can afford to lose, and check that Deriv is allowed where you live. This guide is education, not financial advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the martingale strategy work?

It produces frequent small wins and rare large losses; it does not remove the house edge.

Can you lose with martingale?

Yes. A long losing streak can wipe out the account because the stake doubles each time.

What is the best martingale setting on Deriv?

A low multiplier with a cap of 3–4 steps and a session stop-loss, or no martingale.

What is anti-martingale?

Increasing the stake after wins and reducing it after losses; it limits drawdowns but still has no edge.

Why do martingale bots blow accounts?

Because stakes grow exponentially during a streak until the balance or stake limit is reached.

Is martingale allowed on Deriv?

Yes, Deriv Bot supports it; the risk is entirely yours.
