Deriv Basket Indices: How the Gold, USD, EUR, GBP and AUD Baskets Work and When They Trade

Quick answer: A Deriv basket index tracks one currency (or gold) against a group of other currencies, so it shows the overall strength of that one asset. On 20 October 2026 Deriv listed five: AUD, EUR, GBP and USD Baskets and a Gold Basket. Unlike Volatility indices they follow real markets, so they are closed at weekends and close early on Fridays (20:55 GMT). They offered Rise/Fall and multipliers.

Real hourly closes: baskets move slowly, like the currency markets they follow.

How a Basket Index Works

A single forex pair such as EUR/USD mixes two currencies: you never know if the euro is strong or the dollar is weak. A basket compares one asset with several others at once, so the noise from any one partner currency is smaller.

Real Movement Compared

Index (real hourly data, about 190–200 trading hours)Change over the periodHours that closed up
Gold Basket+0.52%46%
USD Basket−0.52%47%
EUR Basket−0.12%58%

For comparison, a single 1-hour candle on Volatility 75 averaged 1.27%. Baskets are slow, so multipliers or longer durations make more sense than tick contracts.

GoldMonday to Friday 00:00–21:00 and 22:00–23:59Weekends; Fridays close 20:55; some US holidays close early

Kenya time is GMT+3, so a Friday close at 20:55 GMT is 23:55 in Nairobi. Full details in Deriv trading hours.
